Rescuing Raggedy Ann and Andy

July 7, 2010
We got rolling from our campsite and got on the road to Sleeping Bear Dunes. I hate that my kids are early risers but it makes for early check outs from our campsites - we are always on the road no later than 9 am even after making breakfast and tearing down camp!

We got to Sleeping Bear Dunes and looked at some campsites - we ended up staying at the Platte River State Park - it was very nice and we got the last available campsite - hurray! It was a nice site so we set up camp, had some lunch and went off site seeing. Our first stop was Glen Haven, a little town with a general store, blacksmith shop, and the Coast Guard station.
Manhattan, Maxwell, and Morgan heading out while I read my book (my birthday present - thank you Morgan) and Marin slept. When it was time for the reenactment, Morgan came and got us! We carried Marin over and she stayed asleep through most of it on the lawn - I love that picture of her dead on my lap - she was exhausted and there was nothing we could do to wake her. Hattie participated in the reenactment as a "surf man" - she thought it was really fun and loved "rescuing" Raggedy Ann and Andy from their sinking ship!

The ranger introduced Manhattan to the Junior Ranger program - she had to visit places around the National Park, answer questions in her Junior Ranger book, and swear to take care of nature and she earned a patch that she could put on her Brownie sash. She loved that - she worked really hard and made she we saw everything. When we got home we sewed it on her sash - something extra from our trip!

After we checked out Glen Haven, we headed to Empire Beach for some swimming - it was super hot and everyone was ready!
