After the Empire hike, we took a drive along the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive. It was a nice drive but it was still very foggy so we did not get to see the beautiful views everyone talks about. We came upon the "illegal" sand dune climb - this is the one that they do not want you to climb down because once you are down to the lake there is no way to get you out except by climbing back up. Morgan did it with the scouts a couple years ago and it took them almost an hour to come back up. We decided to pass considering we had a 3 year old and Morgan had Maxwell on his back. Hattie and I could have done it but we hung back in courtesy to the rest of our family. Truth is Manhattan would have been the first one down to the lake and the first one back to the top. You can tell by the pictures that it was a super foggy day all day! After lunch we made it over to the "Official" Dune Climb. We kicked off our shoes and started walking. Hattie goal was to make it to the highest point and we all made it! Yes, Morgan had Maxwell on his back the whole time!We took a couple videos but they seem to be too long to download so I will see what I need to do to get them loaded here.
We finished up the evening with dinner around the campfire and another yummy cake compliments of Morgan - apple cake this time! The next morning we took the 6 hour drive home - not the most fun but all the kids did terrific! It was nice to shower and sleep in our own beds!
The best part of our camping trip:
Morgan - seeing new things
Melissa - being away from all responsibilityManhattan - everything!
Marin - sleeping in a tent, playing in the water
Maxwell - he would say "being outside, he loves to be outside"
The worst part of our camping trip:
Mom and Dad agree - bedtime, no one wants to go to sleep when the sun is up and so we battle (especially Maxwell) every night!
Manhattan and Marin both agreed there was nothing bad on our trip!Maxwell - he would say "being stuck in my car seat for 6 hours"
